Clearr Corporation offers its Luminaire Ultra III ultra-thin backlit display which uses Cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL), which are energy efficient and cool operating. Power consumption and heat generation is reduced up to 80% compared to displays with conventional fluorescent lamps and ballasts. The life expectancy of the CCFLs is 40,000 hours (up to 9 years in a typical retail application), which is double that of conventional fluorescent. Intercept Corporation introduced its "EcoDemoPro" line. These environmentally friendly demo stations are constructed using recycled industrial plastics that would normally end up in landfills. These kiosks look professional and are extremely durable and have a lifetime warranty. Options available include overhead signage, graphics, plastic or food grade stainless steel Counter tops and electrical outlet. All components are self storing and integrated wheels offer easy transport. A recycled label on each unit alerts customers that they are using a product made from recycled materials. Design Phase, Inc. is on an environmental mission using its creative talent along with an established recycling and electric consumption policy started in 2004. It is currently working to use sustainable materials in production partnering with Walt Disney Home Video Entertainment and Wal-Mart to create a fixture built entirely of recycled materials. It hopes to continue this trend by offering cost effective environmentally friendly alternatives. This spring, Design Phase planted its own farm in the back lot of its property. Each division of Design Phase was given a plot of land to harvest. The farm has allowed Design Phase to become closer as a company and give back to the environment at the same time. The "Tis The Season" display is a permanent interactive unit. The fixture was initially designed using standard materials and has since been redesigned using materials which utilize more biodegradable characteristics. The new panels are made from Skyblend. The vinyl woodgrain covering was replaced with paper. The PVC edgebanding was replaced with polypropylene edgebanding and the hardboard back was replaced with point stock with a wood grain finish. Great Northern Corp. Consumer Packaging & Display produced this Scotts Roundup 56 Ct. Pallet for the Scotts Company. Its common structural components save over packaging and reduce assembly, process, energy and costs. It is made from recycled materials and is l00% recyclable. It allows for double stacking in transit and 2,3 and 4 high when stacking in warehouses. This merchandiser arrives at retail shrouded and is ready to shop in 30 seconds. Hartman Plastics Inc. has focused on an environmentally friendly process of manufacturing foamboards. Most HartBoard® products are composites of paper and plastic that cannot be separated to recycle. However HartPlus®, an all-polystyrene foam-centered panel is completely recyclable. Hartman has restructured its production process to be green friendly and to conform with stringent VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) rules. Menasha Packaging Company created this Ice Breakers Berry Sour PDQ, eliminating fillers by utilizing an angled front, back and sides. This pushes the product forward so that it is at the front of the tray on an end-cap. This is achieved by the angled design allowing for the removal of internal fillers that would have been necessary to keep the product from shifting. This display introduces a new "all-natural" fertilizer which is environmentally friendly and is actually l00" worm poop, marketed in used soda bottles, thereby reducing waste in the environment through the sale of the product. Alpak Display Group was selected as their P.O.P supplier of choice in part because of its commitment to pursuing environmentally friendly P.O.P. Alpak was one of the first display companies in the country to convert its oil-based press into a water-based press and one of the first to set up an in-house ink-treatment waste system. Proprint Services Inc. offers this unique promotional item, a wobbler, which is being used to bring awareness and enlighten the consumer that the products highlighted in the store were grown locally. The push is to promote the local flavor and to show the environmental concerns that are at the forefront of consumers' minds. The eye-catching wobble of this printed piece adds a 3-dimensional look that attracts the consumer. The wobbler was printed on a vinyl stock and die cut with tape added to the top so that it can adhere to shelves. In addition to the wobbler, bin signs, basewrap, posters and hanging signs were also produced for the program. Litco offers its "Greener Earth" P.O.P Presswood Pallets, which are both source reducing and recyclable. They are made of pre and post-consumer wood waste. Pre-consumer wood waste includes wood from strip mining, forest management thinning and urban clearing. No trees are cut specifically for the production of the pallets. Post consumer includes used wooden pallets and boxes. Litco's presswood pallets are molded into one piece which enables 50 pallets to nest in a seven-foot high stack, saving warehouse space. Retail Solution Center produced this "What's New" counter display for Origins, using exclusively LEED certified MDF (100% pre-consumer recycled fiber), veneer and cork. LEED certification is based on a variety of categories including sustainability, energy, materials and indoor quality. EcoMedia™ has introduced EcoMedia™ Elements which are films used for UV and solvent printers. EcoMedia™ is a 100% biodegradable and recyclable film that is priced to compete with traditional PVC film, yet is stronger and cleaner than PVC and can be used to replace PVC in all applications. Available in rolls up to 85" wide and in thicknesses from .9 to 40 mil, EcoMedia™ also offers tensile strength that exceeds 17,000 PSI. EcoMedia™ is field-tested, can be used in all UV and solvent printers, is non-toxic and FDA approved. Customer tests show EcoMedia™ will perform as well as or better than PVC in the field, yet the futuristic biodegradable plastic is engineered to degrade only once the material is placed into a landfill. Focus America Group Inc. offers the OpticLED. This display is a long lasting infrared, battery operated display. The OpticLED can also be operated from a PC using a USB chord. The graphic area is laser etched and printed on an interchangeable acrylic header. This display comes with a stock LED base, but can be used with other sub-straights such as vacuum formed trays and bases. This long lasting battery operated display is environmentally friendly. Trion Industries, Inc. has done a study on "Green Fixtures" The Effects of Shelf Management Systems on Freezer Energy Conservation. A typical 5-door freezer was monitored for 10 days in the "before" mode and a similar l0-day period "after" installation of an EWT Expandable Wire Tray Shelf Management System unit was used. Remote sensing units were used to monitor aisle traffic and the number of times freezer doors were opened and average freezer temperature. Merchandising efficiency and cooler efficiency increased substantially. Midway Displays offers the Clipper™ Snaprack, an eco friendly unit. Its patented design allows it to fold and pack in a small carton. It is fully recyclable reducing solid waste.
