Consumers Favor Whole House Solutions For Allergies, Asthma, Reveals Survey

With the alarming numbers of children developing allergies and asthma each year, homeowners are looking for effective ways to control mold, dust and other allergens that can trigger allergies and asthma attacks, according to a nationwide survey conducted for Chelsea Group, a strategic consulting company by Market Facts, a market research firm.

“Only 4.1% of homeowners expressed no interest in purchasing products to improve the quality of air inside their homes, which translates into a strong market for products for home use that can effectively control molds, dust and allergencs that make asthma and allergies worse,” said George Benda, CEO of the Chelsea Group, Ltd., Itasca, IL.

“What is intriguing about this survey is that homeowners by far prefer whole house to room-to-room solutions by nearly 2 to 1, with strong preferences for purchasing a better filter or air cleaner for their home’s furnace or air conditioner (81.5%) as compared with other options, such as an air-cleaning machine for a single room,” Benda said.

In addition, homeowners prefer to attack molds, dust and allergens at their source. Products that control humidity and moisture ranked highly in the survey, as did cleansers for showers, counters and toilets.

The Healing Garden Candle Line Introduced

The Healing Garden has been introduced as a new line of aroma candles. The line is the result of a licensing agreement between Lancaster Colony’s Candle-Lite division and Coty US LLC.

Anton Katrus, Candle-Lite’s Vice President of Special Markets, said, “Healing Garden has huge dominant market share in the bath and fragrance arena in Mass Merchandisers and Food and Drug stores. We plan to help the company achieve the same level of success in the candle aisle.”

The Rogers Co., Cleveland, OH, was retained by Decora, Inc. to create a high-impact 10’ x 20’ custom in-line display. Having previously designed a 25’ x 40’ custom peninsula display for Decora, the decision was made to integrate and reconfigure these existing custom properties. Rogers collaborated with Boy/Girl Design, a California design company, on creative product propping in order to demonstrate trendy as well as traditional uses for Con-Tact, Decora’s leading product. The “Classic Kitchen” vignette, a simulated home kitchen environment, spotlighted shelf liners and decorative coverings by cleverly applying them to pantry shelves, cupboard drawers, soup cans and breadbox. The “Collective Bath” vignette consisted of a shower, pedestal sink, vanity and shelving unit covered in coordinating colors, textures and design patterns. Rogers’ solution to combine the existing custom properties with redesigned product vignettes contained costs without compromising creativity, and the display stayed consistent with Decora’s presentation needs and corporate identity.
