Plumb Pak Introduces Bath Drain Repair Center
Plumb Pak, a division of United Plumbing Technologies, Newington, CT, recently introduced a 4’ Bath Drain Repair Center at the 1999 National Hardware Show. The display, which includes numerous repair and replacement parts for most bath drains, was awarded first place under the category of Multi-Use Displayers.
The Bath Drain Repair Center is a corrugated cut case program featuring attractive color coordinated labeling for easy product identification. The display contains assorted repair parts and replacement items for consumers who wish to upgrade to special finishes in the tub area. Color coordinated P.O.P. signs help assist the consumer through the selection process. The Bath Drain repair program is also available as a “clip & tag” style wire fencing option for retailers who do not display product in corrugated cartons.
Faux Creation Gallery Showcases Faux Finishes
Capitalizing on the popularity of faux finishing, Bloch/New England, Worcester, MA, has introduced the Faux Creation Gallery, a free standing floor display featuring nine unique faux painting applicators.
Created to appear as if the display itself has been faux painted, each individual sku includes detailed instructions and full color depictions of the effect the applicator can create.
Designed by Exsel Advertising and printed by Rand-Whitney Container Corp., the Faux Creations Gallery was the winner of the Retailers Choice Award at the recent National Hardware Show.

Beaulieu Residential, Dalton, GA, is featuring this Dennis The Menace display, in order to convey the message to consumers that its carpeting is “kid proof.”
“We adopted a branding strategy that will give us instant recognition with the target consumer,” said Gary Keeble, Jr., Marketing Manager for Beaulieu Residential. “Our carpeting is `Dennis Proof.’ There is a familiarity with Dennis among children and the parents of those children.”
The Dennis display has been quite a success since it began shipping for the fall selling season. “This has been the fastest selling display concept in our Company’s history,” said Keeble.
Delden Features Garage Door Styles In Display
Delden Garage Door Companies is using this display to fully merchandise garage door styles, features and benefits.
The display consists of tubular metal powder coated frame combined with Melamine clad particle board with digitally output high-gloss laminated header.
Delden Garage has over 100 of these Garage Door Displays out on the retail floor.
This Delden Garage Door Display was created by Sandy, Incorporated, a Lenexa, Kansas-based p.o.p. display firm.
Ace Hardware Installs In-store Kiosks
Ace Hardware has formed a strategic partnership with Our House, Inc., to produce an industry-first “home solutions portal” that will combine products, projects, information, service, installation and an on-line community. Ace will act as the fulfillment house and provider of total home improvement project solutions for consumers by initially offering some 22,000 individual products. The site will target total project solutions for do-it-yourself enthusiasts and home remodelers.
Consumers will have the option of purchasing a wide selection of items directly from the OurHouse.com Web site or by visiting participating Ace stores with in-store kiosks, for instant access to the site.
“Ace retailers can now expand on their image as the ‘helpful hardware folks’ by offering yet another convenient service to existing customers while tapping into the entirely new cyberspace consumer,” said David Hodnik, Ace Hardware President and CEO. “Stores will no longer be limited by space parameters.”
Office Depot & UPS Launch New Service
Office Depot and UPS have formed a partnership to combine the convenience of Office Depot stores with the global reach of UPS shipping services. The two have created a “one-stop-shipping” concept that provides small businesses convenient access to UPS rates and services as well as a full range of packaging products and shipping supplies.
“This new strategic relationship between Office Depot and UPS offers several unique advantages,” said Shawn McGhee, Office Depot’s Exec. V.P. of Merchandising & Marketing. “Not only does Office Depot offer the convenience of shipping via UPS as late as 7 p.m., but our customers can do so at UPS’ published rates. In other words, UPS shipping is available at Office Depot’s everyday low prices.”
Home Depot Debuts Villager’s Hardware
Villager’s Hardware, a new line of neighborhood hardware stores from The Home Depot, recently opened its first store located in East Brunswick, NJ. The 40,000-sq. ft. Villager’s Hardware carries some 37,000 products in 10 departments and contains six resource centers for everything needed to complete small home decor and repair projects. Customers can find products, tools and ideas for general fix-up and repair plus home decorating, organization, gardening, housewares and gifts. A special feature is the Projects Solutions Center, one of six resource areas for answers to consumer questions on home enhancement.
“Villager’s Hardware is recreating the hardware store,” said Robert Wittman, Sr. V.P. for Business Development. “It is unique in terms of the products we stock and services we offer.”
Bayer Introduces Lawn and Garden Line
Bayer Corp. has entered the $27 billion lawn and garden market with two new product lines from Bayer-Pursell, LLC, a joint venture between Bayer and Pursell Industries. The Bayer Advanced brand will feature more than 20 lawn, garden and home products including Bayer Advanced Garden 2-in-1 Rose & Flower Care and Bayer Advanced Grub Control.
The Bayer Advanced roll-out, one of the largest consumer marketing efforts in company history, will be supported by a $20 million communications plan.
La-Z-Boy Introduces Recliner With Cooler
La-Z-Boy Inc. has introduced the first recliner ever with a built-in electric cooler. The “Oasis” is armed with an electric cooling unit underneath the flip-up armpad, large enough to hold up to six 12-ounce cans.
John Case, V.P., Marketing for La-Z-Boy said “This chair has it all for the sports fan who doesn’t want to miss a moment of the action.”
Hunter Douglas Window Fashions Introduces The SoftSuede™ Display
This new SoftSuede™ Display features the Paramount Headrail System from Millenia™ Custom Vertical Blinds. The display measures 22 ¼" x 40 5/8" and features eight headrail finishes in four-inch samples. Each unit enables the customer to envision entire blind systems from the Paramount headrail...to color choices...to Vane aesthetics and feel to the PermaTilt™ wand control.
