Samsung Opens In Store Environments At Office Depot

Samsung Electronics Canada has announced a strategic retail partnership with Office Depot, Inc. which entails opening Samsung Store In Store Environments at Office Depot stores.

“The new partnership provides Canadians with a specialized environment dedicated to top of the line Samsung products and technologies within a respected retail outlet,” said J.S. Rho, President of Samsung Electronics Canada.

The Samsung Store in Store Environment was designed to meet the needs of each Office Depot location. “Small” measures at a maximum of 9' x 12', “medium” measures a maximum of 18' x 16' and “large” measures a maximum of 16' x 24'.

The Samsung Store in Store Environment features the latest Samsung technology such as LCD and Plasma televisions, the Home Theatre in a Box, Samsung’s new YEPP mp3 players, printers, the F.A. Porsche designed TFT-LCD monitor series, DVD players with memory stick technology, the SyncMaster 152T, and a new line of Digital camcorders.


Federated Launches ‘Reinvent’ Strategy

Federated Department Stores has launched a “reinvent the department store” strategy. The company is retrofitting 34 of its existing stores with elements such as enhanced fitting rooms, high visibility directional signage, price-check devices, comfortable lounge areas, in-store computer kiosks, revamped juniors and young men's departments, shopping carts and innovative merchandising presentations. The stores with the reinvent strategy will feature the latest technology and conveniences including in-store computer internet kiosks that allow customers to check e-mail and local entertainment venues, as well as an average of 30 price-check stations located throughout the store.

Terry Lundgren, Federated’s President, said, “We are continuously listening to the needs of our customers and then directing our reinvent strategies to meet them. The results are seen in our rejuvenated department stores with an emphasis on distinctive presentation, ease of navigation, and greater convenience in the shopping experience.”


RadioShack Debuts New Prototype Store

RadioShack has unveiled its new prototype store concept in Fort Worth, TX. Leonard Roberts, CEO of RadioShack, said, “This store design supports our focus on anchor businesses and the growing digital product revolution and allows us to expand our product assortment.”

Customer flow has been redesigned around the sales counter located in the middle of the store. Store signage tells customers where merchandise is located. The bright color schemes remain, yet color palettes can be changed inexpensively through innovative wall systems. The new store prototype is larger than the typical Radio Shack, to allow for wider aisles.


M360 (degrees) has launched the patented HoloVu family of 3D displays including the HoloVu Virtual, which floats full motion video images in thin air. It offers a flexible footprint and can be fully interactive. M360 also offers the HoloVu G-Cubed virtual 3D diorama, the HoloVu-Object and the Z360 3D television system. TouchSystems Corp. has launched Versa Touch, a new slim-line touch PC featuring a LCD display. Versa Touch, which houses a Pentium III, is targeted for slim design kiosk integration, allowing the display and computer to be mounted vertical or horizontal to each other, saving depth. Z Cube Displays produces the Maverick Advertising System, which displays video with flash memory capabilities in a self contained video monitor. The Maverick, which works through a wireless receiver, can hold both audio and video information, still images and text messages. Defense Dept. Employs Recruiting Kiosks

The U.S. Department of Defense is using military recruiting kiosks for venues such as shopping malls, movie theaters and concert halls. The kiosks, called Interactive Billboards or I-Boards, provide potential recruits with information on the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Guard. Kiosk Information Systems (KIS), Louisville, CO, created the I-Board kiosks in partnership with Campbell-Ewald, a Detroit-based communications agency.

The I-Board is designed for easy transport and 15-minute setup. A KIS control board tracks usage statistics, reboots the unit on power failure, administers DVD video clips, and alerts Campbell-Ewald if any components malfunction.


Coca-Cola To Launch Digital Menu Boards

Coca-Cola Fountain and Allure Fusion Media, Atlanta, GA, have formed an alliance to bring Digital Marketing Communications solutions to fast food and hospitality restaurant customers. The Allure technology replaces static menu boards with wireless, Web-enabled solutions.

These new digital boards allow restaurateurs to display and instantly update DVD-quality graphics. Eric McCarthey, Sr. V.P., Coca-Cola Fountain, said, “Allure’s technology enables customized messages by time of day and by location.”

Content is displayed on 42-inch flat-panel, plasma video screens, 15" and 17" LCD screens or 29" CRT screens.
