ILIO Entertainments Unveils ‘Sound Search’ Kiosk

ILIO Entertainments has unveiled its Sound Search interactive, freestanding demo station. The Sound Search kiosk is designed to attract customers to sample CDs and CD-ROMs. It features two pairs of headphones, a MIDI keyboard for playing demo patches and a roller printer for making shopping lists. The kiosk features a touchscreen iMac computer and is attractively presented in a freestanding, small footprint clear Plexiglas frame. “Customers will be able to walk into their favorite store, put on the headphones and audition ILIO’s award-winning collection of sample libraries by loading and playing patches with a MIDI keyboard, rather than having to listen to static demos or samples one at a time,” said Mark Hiskey of ILIO Entertainments. The kiosk is also connected to a phone line in the retail outlet, enabling ILIO to keep the kiosk’s content current through remote updates. The kiosk was developed for ILIO by 1stKIOSK, of Valencia, CA.

McDonald’s Features New POS Technology

McDonald’s of Hawaii is rolling out new E-Window and E-Banner products at nearly 80 McDonald's locations throughout Hawaii. The products are provided by Electronic Billboard Technology, a division of SI Diamond Technolgy.

“McDonald's has experienced increased sales lift results using our E-Window and E-Banner products during a test period we just concluded,” said Marc Eller, Chairman and CEO of SI Diamond Technology. “They've taken advantage of the benefits of this digital point-of-sale technology, which features video and sound. Many other retailers and advertisers are also showing interest in this unique tool because of its ability to reach active consumers in a captive environment.”



Amtrak Unveils Internet-Enabled Trains

Amtrak and Yahoo! have rolled out the country's first Internet-enabled passenger trains. The three interactive trains will operate on Amtrak services, the Acela Regional in the Northeast, Capitols in Northern California and Hiawatha in the Midwest, for up to six months.

With cars wrapped in Yahoo!’s signature purple and yellow colors, the interactive trains are now in service and offer guests access to Yahoo! content and services while on-the-go. Compaq’s iPAQ Pocket PCs are mounted in the café cars or coaches, giving Amtrak guests the ability to surf the Web free-of-charge as they travel.

“Joining with Yahoo! is a perfect match for Amtrak,” said Cyndi Darlington, Amtrak's Assistant Vice President for Sales and Marketing. “More and more people are choosing to travel by train, and by combining the experience with the latest technology we are making the train an even more productive and stress-free way to travel.”

IBM announced that its NetVista Kiosk is now available with faster processing power, increased hard drive capacity and a larger capacitive touch screen. In-store shoppers, for example, can browse gift registries, configure products or services, research items and compare alternatives at the kiosk before making a selection. Customers can now choose from two different models of the IBM NetVista Kiosk, the new Model 150, a premium configuration for advanced self-service applications and the Model 120, a standard configuration. Pearlson Development Corp. has introduced two new LCD touchscreen models to its Treeosk line of kiosks. The TR-10 and TR-12 models, which feature the EloTouchsystems 15” LCD touchscreen, can accommodate optional POS devices, a video camera, and keyboard. Gateway CyberSpot Kiosks Connect Fans

Olympic athletes in Salt Lake City for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games were able to keep in touch with fans, family and friends via video e-mails at Gateway CyberSpot kiosks located in Gateway stores nationwide.

The Gateway CyberSpots allowed anyone to record a video message and email it to an individual Olympian or an entire team, free of charge.

In each store, a listing of U.S. Olympic athletes was posted, with local athletes highlighted. Gateway representatives were on hand at all kiosks to help if needed.


Circle K Stores Featuring Kiosks

Computer Automation Systems Inc., has shipped new interactive kiosks for installation in Circle K convenience stores. Each kiosk provides Circle K's customers with integrated Internet access to make Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) phone calls to anywhere in the world, check e-mail, surf the Web, receive shopping specials and play games. The kiosks have Infrared ports to download music mpegs to portable devices.

Computer Automation Systems assembled the kiosks using its proprietary “‘smart” flat panel displays and integrated the software systems that are the new ZapLink public access kiosks for the Global Access Alliance Inc. of Bessemer, AL, which has an agreement to provide the kiosks to Circle K.


Stop & Shop to Pilot Netgrocer’s ‘Endless Aisle’ Service

Web-enabled kiosks will allow consumers to shop for ‘Hard-to-Find’ items at Stop & Shop stores in New England. Stop & Shop Supermarket Co., and Netgrocer, an online retailer, are testing the “Endless Aisle” program in select stores.

“We are continuously exploring opportunities to use technology to enhance our customers’ shopping experience and expand our one-stop-shopping service,” said Marc Smith, CEO of Stop & Shop.

To use the service, consumers begin by visiting the in-store Endless Aisle kiosk. They follow simple, onscreen instructions to locate hard-to-find items. Upon selecting a payment method, the process is completed and the order is shipped to the customer’s home via FedEx.


Adapt Media Delivers Mobile Advertising

Adapt Media, Inc., offers ad/runner, a patented media platform, which can distribute advertising campaigns to thousands of electronic billboards within seconds.

Ad/runner makes use of cellular communication, GPS, ad serving, and electronic display technologies to enable advertisers to target consumers with geographical accuracy. The ad/runner display is an electronic billboard designed for mounting directly on a vehicle. Each ad/runner display contains a computer and a Global Positioning System receiver.

Quantum Is Launched

Eurodisplay de Cataluna SA, Barcelona, Spain, has introduced the Quantum, a multi poster display storing up to six different posters. The Quantum display features a patented hooking system which makes it extremely reliable.

Quantum units also offer “Telemetrix,” a patented system for programming and verifying poster displays via the internet.

SHOPPERS DERMASKIN KIOSK. The unit promotes a skin care line using a new technology, Video Micropore. The monitor shows a magnified view of the consumers’ skin for the salesperson determining treatment. The unit is placed on the retailer’s floor and the monitor is dropped into the existing space provided. All products are on view on lighted shelves. The Microscope completes the analysis on site. DISPLAY PROGRAM FOR XBOX VIDEO GAME SYSTEM. These displays are spearheading Microsoft’s initial effort into the video game industry. Microsoft had to first develop a game system (the console), then software (the games). They then commissioned an interactive display program for retailers to showcase the new system, for in-store trial. ROUND UP “TALKING WEED DISPLAY.” This display was designed to heighten brand awareness and spur sales at retail. Treeosk™ Interactive Kiosk

The line of interactive multimedia kiosk displays has been extended to include two new models TR-10 and TR-12. They are designed to accommodate optional POS devices, a built-in video camera and a public access keyboard/trackball. The models are available immediately. While the Treeosk was designed specifically for apple's IMac, the new models accommodate a wide range of windows, Mac and Linux computers.
