Chase Opens Financial Solution Centers
Chase Manhattan Bank has opened Chase Financial Solution Centers in grocery stores to provide banking services in a limited space. Typically, the centers occupy 500 square feet and provide full banking including: two sales offices, three transaction/sales stations, two ATM stations and access to a call-in banking service.
Chase turned to Contempo Design, headquartered in Libertyville, IL, for the full turn-key development of the in-store program. Original design concepts were produced for Chase by NCR Retail Design Center.
The in-store elements include custom cabinetry, housings for ATM kiosks, lighting, furniture, and customer information stations complete with literature displays. Promotional graphics and interior and exterior signage, transform the grocery into a complete banking environment, while conveying the Chase brand identity.
Bell Mobility TotalCom Mall-Based Stores Debut
Bell Mobility has introduced TotalCom mall-based specialty stores in Canada. Appealing to the interests of Bell Mobility’s diverse consumer segments required innovative store design by Retail Planning Associates, Inc., (RPA), Columbus, OH.
Unlike the technology or brand-based departments of most phone stores, TotalCom is departmentalized by lifestyles; i.e., Personal Solutions, Business Solutions, Entertainment/Discovery. Lining the shop walls is a rail system with 4x5’ lifestyle graphic panels. These smiling faces humanize the space, and appeal to the various customer segments. The rail system is flexible for graphics updates, and to meet each store’s needs.
Each store features interactive kiosks that blend corporate advertising videos into a self-service information gathering and sales process providing a customized recommendation of hardware and services. The interactivity extends to the storefront, where there is a 24-hour touchpoint.
Advanced Kiosk Solutions Announces QuickShip
Advanced Kiosk Solutions has introduced a varied selection of kiosk designs, QuickShip, designed to provide fast delivery of cost effective kiosk enclosures. The kiosks are available in five business days and are designed to house touchscreens, printers, computers, speakers and credit card readers. The kiosks offer such standard features as Melamine construction in three color choices, locking access doors, faceplate fit for selected touchscreens, rollout hardware shelves, ventilation system, protective kickbase, and a shipping container. ISS Introduces UltraFlatTouch
Interactive Sales Systems, Inc. (ISS) has introduced the UltraFlatTouch, a touch-driven point-of-sale system that is 3” deep, making it ideal for hanging on racks or slatwalls. The UltraFlatTouch offers the intimacy of touch and instant feedback to involve the consumer with the products displayed around the unit. When a consumer touches the video screen, the UltraFlatTouch automatically launches a pre-programmed video message promoting the products displayed. The display asks consumers for their preferences and responds with the highest quality sight, sound, and motion, which the consumer controls with touch. The unit may be easily linked to large monitors. First Wave Introduces Smart Numbering System
First Wave, Inc., has developed a smart numbering system that works multiple lines at once, categorizing consumers by their individual needs, and even paging a service rep if necessary. Smart Number, is a multimedia computer designed to improve customer service and reduce transaction processing times. The system retains the now being served display of old, but updates it with a multi-color lighted reader board, that can display several queues at once. More than one welcoming station can be used in busy locations. The units are linked together so that people are taken care of in the proper sequence regardless of which station they use. AGI Launches Sports Network
America’s Game, Inc., (AGI), which specializes in the manufacturing, programming and placement of kiosk entertainment centers, which provide sports information and fantasy sports competition to the user free of charge, has signed on as charter advertisers Pioneer New Media Technologies, Inc., Playboy Enterprises, Inc., and Starter Corporation for its America’s Game Sports Network.
The people who participate in fantasy sports leagues tend to be highly educated with a high amount of disposable income,” said Ralph Rossi, Jr., President of America’s Game. “Distribution of the kiosks will allow this key market segment to join free fantasy leagues, with the majority of our company’s revenues coming through the placement of advertising on the kiosks.
AGI plans to install more than 400 centrally connected kiosks in sports-themed bars and restaurants and other entertainment locations throughout the U.S.

Keybank Features Afford-A-Boat Kiosk At Trade Shows
KeyBank USA recently brought this Afford-A-Boat kiosk to first-time buyers at the Miami International Boat Show. The easy computer touch-screen helps explain finances, budgets, affordability and more to users. "Before Afford-A-Boat, prospective first-time buyers had no simple and practical way to determine if they could manage a boat purchase," said Ken Landon, Sr. V.P. KeyBank USA, the nation’s largest marine retail lender. The Afford-A-Boat kiosk makes buying decisions easier with interactive touch-screens that provide fast and easy answers to consumers’ finance and budget questions. By choosing among various loan terms consumers can pick the monthly payment that is right for them.
DTI Introduces 3D Display
Dimension Technologies Inc., (DTI) has introduced a 12" flat panel 3D display. The display allows both single and full-motion stereoscopic three-dimensional images to be viewed in full color with resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and color depth to 256,000 colors. The display is housed in a high style black cabinet that boasts a footprint only about 10% of that of a conventional display. The 12” flat panel 3D display can be used with a variety of operating platforms including Windows 95 and Macintosh.
