General Mills Launches Harmony For Women
General Mills has launched Harmony cereal developed to meet women’s nutritional needs. One serving of low-fat Harmony cereal contains nutrients women need to stay healthy including calcium, antioxidants, iron and folic acid. It is also made with soy.
Coty Launches American Original Fragrance
Coty has introduced American Original, a new fragrance created under the Stetson brand, categorized as a “free-spirited floral.” “Stetson’s impressive endurance as a brand is evidenced by its ranking as the leading men’s fragrance sold in mass retail, and the development of American Original further underscores Coty’s commitment to building power brands,” said Peter Harf, CEO of Coty.
Nike MORF Unveiled
Nike is launching Nike MORF (Multiple Option Replaceable Footwear). The Air Zoom GP III, the signature shoe of Sonics’ star Gary Payton, will allow players to remove the outer shell as it wears down and replace it with a new one, while keeping the comfortable inner “chasis” intact. “Nike MORF is a replaceable concept that allows consumers to change the way they look without changing the way they feel,” said Dan Jones, Nike’s Basketball Business Director.
Colgate Introduces Kids Actibrush Toothbrush
Colgate-Palmolive is introducing Colgate Actibrush Bzzz for kids. This battery-powered toothbrush is designed to deliver a superior clean and make brushing fun for kids ages 8 to 12.
Replacement Packs offer color refill brushes to coordinate with all designs.
Maytag’s Introduces Wide-By-Side Refrigerator
Maytag’s new Wide-By-Side refrigerator offers the widest available refrigerator and freezer space in a traditional side-by-side refrigerator. While the side-by-side configuration is stylish, it can bring storage issues. The Wide-By-Side allows for more refrigerator space within the footprint of a traditional side-by-side refrigerator.
Kimberly-Clark Introduces Cottonelle Fresh Rollwipes
Kimberly-Clark has launched Cottonelle Fresh Rollwipes, dispersible, pre-moistened wipes on a roll, delivering the cleaning and freshening of pre-moistened wipes with the convenience and disposability of toilet paper.
Comprehensive marketing programs totaling over $40 million will support the introduction of Cottonelle Fresh Rollwipes, making it one of the most significant launches in the company’s history.
Rio Volt CD Player Ships
Rio, a division of SONICblue, has shipped the Rio Volt, the first portable CD player in the family of Rio digital audio players. The Rio Volt plays standard music CDs and recordable CDs containing MP3 and Windows Media Audio files making it possible to store and play more than 250 songs on a single CD. “More people are creating custom CDs from the music collections stored in their computers,” said Jim Cady, President of Rio. “The Rio Volt is ideal for people who enjoy creating personalized music CDs.”

Cyclopss Corp., Salt Lake City, UT, is introducing a new consumer appliance for the decontamination of foods. The Eco-Pure Kitchen Companion treats produce and poultry in a counter-top appliance that uses activated oxygen (Ozone) in cold water to kill E. Coli, Salmonella, Listeria and other micro-organisms on contact.
RCA Unveils LCOS High-Definition Television
RCA is introducing super-light, flat-screen television receivers that utilize Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) technology. Optimized for reception of both over-the-air and satellite HDTV signals, the RCA L50000 is a 50-inch widescreen HDTV display.
“This technology has the potential to revolutionize the television industry, because of its new approach to image creation and display,” said Michael O’Hara, Sr. V.P., Thomson Multimedia.
Logitech Ships Dual Purpose Internet Video Camera
Logitech has introduced the QuickCam Traveler, which combines an internet video camera with a digital still camera. When detached from the PC, the camera can store up to 200 images. With the one button QuickSync feature, users can instantly transfer the pictures to the PC.

La-Z-Boy And WebTV Launch New ‘E-Cliner’
La-Z-Boy and WebTV Networks have introduced the “Explorer,” the first “e-cliner.” Those who purchase “Explorer” will receive a Sony WebTV Plus Internet Receiver, keyboard and two free months of WebTV Plus interactive service. “This relationship allows WebTV Networks and La-Z-Boy to reach new audiences,” said Kevin Wixted, Marketing Director, La-Z-Boy. “We’ve developed the most technologically advanced recliner for consumers to be comfortable with interactive TV, e-mail and the Internet.”
Automotive VideoMirrors Are Introduced
Donnelly Electronic Systems, Holland, MI, has launched the VideoMirror Camera Vision System to give drivers better views of their vehicles’ interiors and exteriors. BabyVue is an in-cabin camera vision system that allows drivers to view reverse-facing infants. ReverseAid is an exterior camera vision system that provides an enhanced view of what is behind the vehicle.
Hershey Foods Introduces Kit Kat And Heath Bites
Hershey Foods Corporation recently launched Kit Kat and Heath Bites, capitalizing on America’s love of chocolate snacking, according to Company research. “Consumers love snacking,” said Tim Rea, Hershey Foods Marketing Manager. “And these two new flavor additions to the Bites family are just right for munching.” New Kit Kat and Heath Bites join the growing Hershey’s Bites line of unwrapped, bite-sized pieces of chocolate candy.
SII Is Launched
Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) in collaboration with AU-System, has produced a new type of watch with fully interactive functions.
SII Wrist Companion has a Bluetooth link which, via a mobile telephone, gives the user access to the Internet, the possibility to send and receive SMS messages, store contact details and a new talking style. AU-System has enabled this interactivity by integrating its AUS WAP Browser into the watch.
VTech Debuts Ready To Read Robots
VTech Industries, LLC, recently introduced a friendly alien robot, Alien Bot, and Alphabert and Sprocket, The Ready To Read Robots, who engage children in an interactive experience as they learn letters and phonics. For 2001, the Company has introduced a total of 66 new electronic learning toys.
Frieda’s Debuts Ready-To-Eat Soybeans
With the popularity of soy now in full swing, Frieda’s Inc. has introduced a new, more convenient way for consumers to add soy to their diets with the introduction of ready-to-eat soybeans. This 10 oz. tray of pre-shelled soybeans is much more convenient for adding to soups, salads and stir-frys as well as a quick out-of-hand snack. The pre-shelled soybeans have up to a 21-day shelf life.
Chicken Of The Sea Debuts New Tuna Salad Kit
Chicken of the Sea’s new Tuna Salad Kit contains all the pre-measured ingredients to make great tasting, fresh tuna salad including no-drain tuna in a vacuum-packed foil pouch, a blend of flavored mayonnaise or salad dressing and dry seasoning. Chicken of the Sea estimates that 75% of tuna purchases are used for making tuna salad.
Vans Launches ‘Tones’
Vans has introduced a line of women’s footwear featuring a new leather technology called “Tones.” Indoors, the new Compel Tones appears to be a plain white skate shoe with colored detailing. Once exposed to UV rays, however, the entire shoe turns the color of its details. When returned to an indoor setting, the shoe reverts back to white.
Vans is supporting the product launch with a print campaign and a p.o.p program.
