Technology will drive exhibition marketing in the future, predicts Joseph Wilhelm, President of Exhibitgroup/Giltspur, Atlanta.. “The companies with the vision to take advantage of new technologies will be able to take the exhibit experience to new levels.” Wilhelm foresees a consolidation and shifting of shows. The return on investment will be much more important. He says attendees will be more focused on which shows they actually attend, and who they see, getting a large amount of help from the ubiquitous Internet. Exhibit graphics will make tremendous changes, said Wilhelm. The use of plasma screens and electronic inks will enable exhibitors to change graphics instantly and focus messages to attendees’ preferences. Wilhelm said this could be based on electronic transmissions between an exhibit and tiny identifier chips worn by attendees. The information stored in an attendee’s chip will prompt the exhibit to display the information of greatest interest. Wilhelm predicts a continuing trend in exhibit materials becoming much more flexible and lighter in weight. In the near term, there will be an explosion in the use of plasma screens. Computer animation and virtual experiences will play a larger role.
Display Products, Inc. offers RasterPrint, a full-color photographic fabric imprinting process.
