Xerox recently exhibited at Drupa 2000, the world’s largest marketing initiative for the graphic arts industries. The Xerox exhibit comprised more than 70,000 sq. ft. of space (including a second story and escalator), transformed into an interactive experience called The New Business Of Printing. The exhibit centered around three pavilions; Just-In-Time, 1:1, and e Solutions. Also featured was “The Storm of Innovation,” a state-of-the-art, multi-media theatrical experience; a theme park quality “ride” celebrating printing yesterday, today and tomorrow; a Working Print Shop featuring the full line of Xerox Digital Print Engines and more than one acre of hands-on demonstrations of Xerox printing solutions. The exhibit was produced by PGI, an Arlington, VA-based interactive event and communications agency.

Exhibitgroup/Giltspur has named C. Alan Cordial as Exec. V.P., Sales and Marketing. He is responsible for directing sales, marketing, and business services from the corporate office in Roselle, IL. Cordial has 23 years of experience in the tradeshow and special events industry. He joined Exhibitgroup/Giltspur when the Company acquired Creative Productions, where he served as President for the past three years.


At the Design Engineering Show held in Chicago recently, Parker Hannifin Corp. featured a dinosaur, astronaut and 27 new high-tech solutions at its exhibit to debunk the myth that manufacturing is ‘old economy.’ The Parker exhibit featured a fully operational animatronic dinosaur made possible by Parker products; a guest appearance by Captain James Lovell, Commander of the Apollo 13, of which Parker designed and manufactured more than 120 components and assemblies; and 27 new products and services. Parker’s booth also featured interactive displays showing visitors the unrivalled breadth of Parker’s products.
W.A.C. Lighting has introduced Display Lights, which are ideal for illuminating exhibits and displays. Designed with a slim periscope extension, Display Lights attach to partitions or fixtures with a standard clamp that accommodates flat surfaces from 1/2 to 2 1/2-inches wide, or special clamps that attach to 4-inch surfaces or a 2 1/2-inch pipe. Showtime Enterprises, Paulsboro, NJ, created this 20’ x 20’ exhibit for Atlanta, GA-based DVT Corp., a provider of machine vision systems. The exhibit, with a futuristic look, features a central, triangular tower framed by an overhead structure of three aluminum rings containing 3D corporate logo letters. Anchoring the triangle like legs of a space ship are workstation columns constructed with a hammered copper laminated finish, ribbed black rubber center spar, and a lumasite curved overhang for light control. Each column provides hidden computer storage, a mounting arm for the camera unit and a controller unit. The workstations contain flat screen monitors mounted using a custom engineered mounting bracket, allowing the monitor to “float” above the workstation surface. A theater consisting of a 50” plasma screen provides an area to display interactive video real-time feeds from DVT’s home office of actual applications of its machine vision systems. Two 42” plasma monitors are placed on the additional two walls to provide larger video displays of the product demonstrations.
Mostre Design Inc., Carlsbad, CA, has announced the hiring of John Caruso as Project Manager. Caruso will head Exhibit Projects for ever-expanding Mostre Design. The company is celebrating its tenth year in business with the recent acquisition of Exhibit Design Systems in Minneapolis, MN offering turnkey exhibit design services in both locations.

Global events management company Nth Degree, headquartered in Stone Mountain, GA, has promoted Mark Metzler to Executive Vice President of Sales and Mark Lively to Executive Vice President Business Development. MC2, a Chestnut, NY-based exhibit firm, has been recognized by both the Chicago and New Jersey chapters of the Business Marketing Association (BMA) for excellence in exhibit design. MC2 clients whose exhibits were honored are Global Crossing and several divisions within Lucent Technologies.
Cyclonics/Exhibit Dynamics has moved its West Coast operations to a larger facility located at 2016 Zanker Rd. in San Jose, CA. The Walt Disney Co. and Compaq Computer Corp. have formed a broad 10-year corporate alliance highlighted by Compaq’s sponsorship of the new Mission: SPACE attraction at Epcot, located at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Compaq is a major provider of servers, PCs and services to Walt Disney Co. Both companies hope to expand this relationship through the new alliance. Compaq will provide its knowledge of computer systems and technology, along with funding, for Mission: SPACE. This “thrill ride of the future” will use new proprietary ride systems to provide guests with a deep space adventure that simulates challenges faced by real astronauts, as well as the experience of lifting off, leaving Earth’s atmosphere and soaring millions of miles through the solar system on a space ship.
Chevrolet’s new Avalanche, a unique Chevy Truck that creates an entirely new market segment called “Ultimate Utility Vehicles,” is the focal point of a consumer marketing tour this summer. The “Avalanche Ultimate Challenge Tour” is visiting 10 major cities to showcase Chevy’s all-new truck to consumers, demonstrate its features and benefits and challenge display visitors to test their skills at a specially designed 28-foot tall rock climbing wall. Avalanche begins production in the first quarter of 2001 and the “Ultimate Challenge Tour” gives consumers an opportunity to see it before it arrives in Chevy dealerships next spring. As Avalanche prospects are targeted to be active, athletic and outdoors-oriented, the Tour also includes a specially constructed rock climbing wall that attendees are invited to scale for fun.
J. Rice Communications, Inc., a Santa Ana, CA-based business-to-business marketing communications firm, has been selected by Again Technologies of San Mateo, to design and implement a strategic marketing communications program that initially includes both tradeshows and Internet conferences.
Innovative Illusions Inc. has produced The Time Machine, a large illusionary device that looks like a space module from inside which an actual person is visibly seen to materialize. People can also dematerialize into the past or the future. The Time Machine can be used at trade shows and conventions to produce presenters in a most memorable way. Recently the illusion produced Thomas Edison for a convention audience of home builders for an association of electric utilities.
