Dr Pepper Mission Control Promotion Launched

The Dr Pepper Mission Control promotion, which is tied to the March 10, 2000 release of Touchstone Pictures' futuristic live-action thriller "Mission to Mars," will provide up to 10 grand prize winners the opportunity to experience a trip towards outer space. Dr Pepper Mission Control offers consumers the opportunity to instantly win one of 10 trips to the edge of space, or one of 15 Kawasaki Prairie 300 all-terrain vehicles, 5,000 Mission to Mars movie CD soundtracks, 10,000 tickets to the movie and 500,000 12-packs of Dr Pepper products. Instant-win prizes will be located behind the lable of 20-ounce and 2-liter specially marked bottles of Dr Pepper and inside specially marked 12-packs of 12-ounce cans. "This is a truly spectacular opportunity for an ordinary citizen to experience firsthand the thrill of traveling to the outer reaches of our atmosphere," said Cindi Clark, Dr Pepper Senior Vice President, Marketing. "Our partnership with Touchstone Pictures and its Mission to Mars feature film is fantastic. The movie will have strong appeal to our 12- to 34-year-old core consumer base." Grand prize winners will travel to Russia, where they will have an opportunity to ride in the seat behind the pilot in a Russian Air Force MiG-25 Foxbat fighter, capable of reaching an altitude of 80,000 feet, the edge of earth's atmosphere. An array of merchandising support materials will be available to retailers, including a large display spectacular, pole signs, shelf talkers, 3-D shelf extenders, vender and cold vault static clings and rolling rack graphic kits. Television and print advertising and information on the Dr Pepper web site, will also support the promotion.

Blaupunkt Introduces Car Navigation System

Blaupunkt, the mobile electronics division of The Robert Bosch Corporation, Broadview, IL, has introduced the Blaupunkt TravelPilot RNS 149, a combination car stereo CD player and car navigation system that can replace a current car stereo. A car navigation system can help prevent a driver from getting lost. This system can guide the driver to any town center, street address or intersection in the continental U.S. The CD-ROM geographic data base includes all public roads and a list of specific points of interest, such as hospitals, police stations, airports, hotels, gas stations, restaurants, parks, historic sites, museums, etc. Compared to many competitive navigation systems, TravelPilot's more accurate positioning capabilities allow for quicker route calculation and rerouting around traffic and road closures. The Blaupunkt RNS 149 TravelPilot CD Receiver is now available at select Blaupunkt dealers nationwide. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $1,799.95.

L'Oreal Translucide Makeup Introduced

L'Oreal's Translucide Lasting Luminous Makeup is a new generation of liquid makeup with a translucent finish that enlightens as it conceals. A.T. Cross Names S. Wellmerling Sr. VP, Mktg. & New Prod. Dev.

A.T. Cross Company has appointed Sondra L. Wellmerling Senior Vice President, Marketing and New Product Development. In this newly created position, Wellmerling will be responsible for creating and directing strategic marketing and new product programs to build brand excitement and drive sales and profitability on a global basis. Most recently, Wellmerling was with Bausch & Lomb, Inc. where she served as Vice President of Global New Products for six sunglass brands.

Giant Video Screen For NASDAQ Introduced In Times Square

The Nasdaq Stock Market Inc. recently debuted its NASDAQ-AMEX screen, which covers the building it occupies at 4 Times Square in New York. The video screen, manufactured by Saco Smartvision Corp., based in Montreal, Canada, measures approximately 120 feet by 90 feet, making it the largest in the world. Covering a total area of 10,736 square feet, the screen follows the curved form of the building expanding over eight floors. "Given its size, resolution and versatility, the Smartvision screen will revolutionize outdoor advertising," said Gary Nalven, Managing Director of Saco Smartvision Corp.

Microsoft And Simon Property Group Form Marketing Alliance To Give A Shopping Spree For MSN Internet Access Sign-Up

DVC Announces New Positions

DVC, Inc., a fully integrated marketing, communications and technology firm, headquartered in Morristown, NJ, has announced the following appointments: Pamela Hague has been promoted to Vice President, Management Supervisor. She will be responsible for managing the AT&T Hotel Co-op Advertising and Co-Marketing Programs, the AT&T Truckstop Co-Marketing Program, along with various other AT&T partnership programs. Steven Pegram has joined DVC's regional office in Denver, CO as Account Supervisor, responsible for managing daily operations of the Western Union Financial Services account. Mercedes Belandres has joined DVC as Account Executive. She is responsible for managing the development and execution of promotions for the agency's Schering Plough account.

Menasha Acquires Comark*Bates

Menasha Corporation recently acquired the assets of Comark*Bates of Elk Grove Village, IL. Formerly owned by Qorvis Media Group, Comark*Bates produces in-store promotional products as well as in-pack premiums. Comark*Bates will be merged with Menasha Corporation's Promo Edge Division. Promo Edge, a division of Menasha's Promotional & Information Graphics Group, is headquartered in Neenah, WI, and produces in-store promotional materials including displays, promotional and primary labels, games and collateral.

Display Technologies Appoints K. McEvoy VP, Sales & Marketing

Display Technologies has appointed Kevin McEvoy Vice President of Headquarters Sales and Marketing, according to Richard Jay, President of the College Point, NY-based leading merchandising agency and manufacturer/designer of point-of-purchase displays. McEvoy will direct the firm's national marketing and sales efforts. Prior to joining Display Technologies, McEvoy was a founding partner of The Glengarry Group LLC.

Next Generation Network Appoints T. Crocker Exec. VP Of Sales & Mktg.

Next Generation Network (NGN), the world's largest digital out-of-home media company located in Minneapolis, MN, has appointed Tracy Crocker as Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Crocker's responsibilities will include local and national sales, marketing and media operations.
