
Andrews and McMeel, Kansas City, MO, has launched a compact disc birthday card line. The CD birthday cards contain a six- to nine- minute audio time capsule featuring actual sound bits of the major news, events and personalities from the year of birth. The line will be merchandised on a 48-pocket acrylic spinner that features a button-activated sound chip that lets customers hear a 10-second sample recording.

Point-of-sale materials, as well as a major advertising campaign feature supermodel Bridget Hall, who is also making in-store appearances. A fragrance tester display is a self-standing unit which consumers can use to sample the fragrance. Photo banners featuring blowups of the product, decorative table cloths and shopping bags also support the launch.
Nintendo of America, Inc., Redmond, WA,, has announced the promotion of Mark Westcott to Director, Advertising and Promotion. Mr. Westcott, who joined the company in 1991 to start the promotion department, now adds consumer advertising, media planning and consumer research functions to his prior role as consumer and trade promotion manager.Responsible for an $80 million advertising and promotional plan, Mr. Westcott has been the main force behind an array of tiered joint promotions with high profile promotion partners such as Kellogg, Pepsi, Duracell, Blockbuster Video and NBC.Mr. Westcott was Group Marketing Manager for Ranier and Weinhard's Breweries before joining Nintendo.
Eastman Kodak is introducing the Kodak Advantix brand of Advanced Photo System film, cameras and accessories.Kodak, Canon, Fuji, Minolta and Nikon have entered into an agreement to develop system standards. More than 40 additional companies have licensed the standards to introduce hundreds of additional products.The compact System employs a smaller-format negative, about 60% the size of 35mm film. Consumers can select from one of three print formats for each shot: "Classic," "Group," for slightly wider shots and "Pan" for panoramic scenes. Photo finishers now return film with a corresponding photo file index print showing a thumbnail-sized picture of each frame, eliminating the hassle of handling and identifying negatives.
Display Masters, a Whitestone, NY based p.o.p. display company has appointed Stephen Kamp to Director of Custom Sales and Development, according to an announcement by Dick Jay, company President. Mr. Kemp was previously with American Tobacco Co.
