Target Stores Launches Mini-Grocery Concept
Target Stores has launched a mini-grocery concept, as part of an effort to increase the frequency of visits to the general-merchandise stores and stimulate impulse purchase of general merchandise items as well. Grocery items include high demand convenience products such as frozen foods; canned goods; pasta and sauces; hot dogs; condiments; bread; cereal; and milk. The product mix ranges from name brand items for frozen and canned goods to local brands for bread and milk.
The concept of adding grocery store items to the store layout was adopted from the success with SuperTarget, a store format that consists of an entire Target general merchandise store and full-service grocery store under one roof. In keeping with the SuperTarget concept, consumers can expect upscale presentation of products and competitive, value-added prices.
"We want to provide Target guests with the convenience of one-stop shopping," said Ken Woodrow, President of Target Stores, which has tested the grocery concept in 13 of its stores nationwide.
Nicotrol Inhaler Introduced
The Nicotrol Inhaler has been cleared by the FDA for prescription sale. The Inhaler is the first form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to help control a smoker’s cravings for cigarettes and provide a key behavioral component of smoking - the hand-to-mouth ritual.
The Nicotrol Inhaler, marketed by McNeil Consumer Products Company, delivers nicotine to reduce the physical withdrawal symptoms and provides a sensation in the back of the throat simular to the feeling of inhaling from a cigarette. The Inhaler consists of a mouthpiece, which is split into two parts, and a cartridge containing a porous nicotine cartridge. The smoker inhales through the mouthpiece. Each puff of the inhaler contains eight-to-ten times less nicotine than a puff of a cigarette, with none of the tars and other harmful components of cigarettes. The nicotine from the Nicotrol Inhaler is absorbed in the mouth and throat, similar to nicotine gum.
