Nintendo Teams With Blockbuster & NICKELODEON To Launch Nintendo 64

Nintendo of America has announced plans to team up with Blockbuster Video and NICKELODEON for an introductory sampling promotion to support the launch of Nintendo’s new 64-bit home video game system, Nintendo 64.

Consumers will be able to rent the Nintendo 64 with one game for three evenings for $16.99 at Blockbuster Video stores.

In addition, consumers will have the chance to win thousands of prizes in the NICKELODEON Spot The Dot Instant Win Game. Consumers pick up the free necessary game pieces at Blockbuster. NICKELODEON will run a red dot sometime during their new Fall primetime shows. Viewers can see if they are instant winners by holding the game pieces up to the red dot on their TV screens and revealing a hidden message.

This promotion is part of a $54 million introductory marketing campaign that Nintendo has planned for the Nintendo 64 launch. Additional elements of the campaign include interactive point-of-purchase displays in Blockbuster Video stores, extensive distribution of additional point-of-purchase display materials, and promotion via the Nintendo and Blockbuster web sites.

Forming strategic alliances with such marquee partners as Blockbuster Video and NICKELODEON will ensure our success in reaching the largest number of our target audience."
