HP Digital Entertainment Center Debuts
Hewlett-Packaged Company is expanding its digital entertainment initiative into the living room, offering consumers new ways to enjoy digital music, video and Internet information. The initiative's first living room component, the HP Digital Entertainment Center, is a stand-alone product that allows enthusiasts to discover new music on the Internet and enjoy their complete music collections from the comfort of their living rooms without the need of a PC. "The expansion of HP's digital entertainment product portfolio is a natural diversification," said Pradeep Jotwani, President, HP Consumer Business Organization. "HP plans to leverage its expertise, strategic relationships and knowledge of customer needs to position itself at the forefront of this quickly evolving market."
Coty Partners With Chupa Chups For New Fragrance And Cosmetics Line
Coty Inc. has entered into a license agreement with Chupa Chups S.A., to develop and market fragrance and cosmetics with the Chupa Chups brand. Both the product line and marketing strategy will reflect the irreverent, non-conformist image of Chupa Chups-world leader brand in lollipops-whose unconventional candies have attracted a growing following of celebrities worldwide. Coty projects that the products, currently in development, will be available in fall 2002 at retail outlets worldwide.
New Pilkington Activ Glass Makes Windows Self-Cleaning
Pilkington North America, Toledo, OH, has introduced a new glass product that uses the sun's UV rays to gradually and continually breakdown and dissolve organic dirt to leave windows clean. In addition to being self-cleaning, the special sheeting action of Pilkington Activ glass causes water to sheet, rather than streak and spot, as it does on ordinary glass. Pilkington Activ glass is the first and only glass manufactured with these self-cleaning properties.
Delta Introduces Hands-Free Faucet
Delta Faucet Company has introduced the e-Flow hands-free faucet, which combines the popularity of a color coordinated bathroom with hands-free electronic faucet technology. Consumers can set the water temperature with an easily accessible control knob and simply place their hands under the faucet to begin water flow. Available in six popular hues (Pacific Blue, Vreeland Red, Zin Purple, Astro Green, Orange Spice and Colorado Mist), the control knob can be interchanged to match colors and accessories in the bathroom or to reflect the homeowner's personal style.
Simmons PetCare Bed Launched
Simmons Company and its licensee Pet Goods Mfg. & Imports, have launched the Simmons PetCare bed. According to Tracy Underwood, Simmons Program Manager for the PetCare line, "Studies show that when pets sleep in the same bed as their owners, the owner's sleep is disturbed. The Simmons PetCare line will provide a comfortable bed for the pet and allow the owners to sleep undisturbed." The innovative PetCare beds are unique among pet bedding, featuring Simmons' patented Pocket Coil technology and dual density foam-the same design that helps human consumers sleep better. There are two products in the line: one features Beautyrest Pocketed Coil Springs and the other uses OrthoCare dual density foam to give controlled support for older pets, large breeds, or pets with hip dysplasia or joint problems.
Staples' New Location In Penn Station Joins Airport Stores, Express Stores And Superstores In Serving Business Travelers
Staples Inc., operator of more than 1,300 office superstores worldwide, announced that the company is expanding service to business travelers by opening a new store at the Amtrak Concourse in Penn Station in NYC.
"Staples is pleased to have the opportunity to expand its service to business travelers with a new location in Penn Station," said Joseph Vassalluzzo, Staples' Vice Chairman. The 2,000 square-foot store will offer commuters a varied selection of merchandise suited to the specific needs of the business traveler, including small pack sizes of paper and file folders, organizers, presentation materials, travel supplies, luggage and small electronics such as hand-held organizers and calculators. Self-service copying and faxing will also be offered and are expected to be popular services. For customers who want to order supplies and have them delivered to their final travel destination, home or office, a Staples.com kiosk and a specially-marked telephone linked to Staples catalog operations will be available for those purchases.
Domino's Pizza Names K. Calwell Exec. V.P.-Build The Brand
Domino's Pizza has appointed Ken C. Calwell to the top marketing post as Executive Vice President-Build The Brand at the world leader in pizza delivery. Calwell, most recently Vice President New Product Marketing, Research and Testing for Wendy's International, will oversee all U.S. marketing initiatives, including advertising, market research, customer relationship management and new product development for Domino's, which operates over 7,000 stores in 65 countries around the world.
RadioShack Names R. Russell Division V.P., Circle R Group
RadioShack Corporation has named Roy Russell Division Vice President of the Circle R Group, the advertising and marketing division for the company. Russell's primary responsibility will be translating key business initiatives into integrated advertising and promotional programs. His team includes Media Planning, On-line Marketing, Relationship Marketing and a Marketing Communications group that works closely with RadioShack's strategic business units-Connecting People, Connecting Places and Connecting Things. Previously, Russell worked as Director, Strategic Planning and Analysis for The Dial Corporation.
Paramount Pictures Promotes A. Koster To Executive Director, Creative Advertising
The Motion Pictures Group of Paramount Pictures has appointed Amy Koster to Executive Director of Creative Advertising, it was announced by Arthur Cohen, President of Worldwide Marketing for the Motion Picture Group. In her new position, Koster will work on the development and implementation of creative print advertising and campaigns for the Motion Picture Group. She will continue to report to Lucia Ludovico, Executive Vice President, Creative Advertising and Print. Most recently, Koster was Director of Creative Advertising.

Rapid Displays Opens New Distribution Facility
Rapid Displays, a leading manufacturer of point-of-purchase merchandising programs, has opened its new 40,000-square-foot distribution facility in Union City, CA. The state-of-the-art building joins the existing 80,000-square-foot design and manufacturing facility, which is used to create theatrical lobby standees, retail window and in-store merchandise displays, and product displays for convenience stores.
