POPAI Announces Oma Award Winners

The Point-of-Purchase Advertising Institute, (POPAI), Englewood, NJ, has announced the winners of the 1995 Oustanding Merchan- dising Achievement Award (OMA) competition.

Some 400+ 1995 OMA awards were announced at POPAI's Marketplace trade show, held Oct. 24-25 at the Javits Center in New York City. Gold OMAs, the highest award in the competition, were presented for 57 display programs.

Marketers who won multiple Gold OMAs included Absolut, American Greetings, Clairol, Estee Lauder, Pepsi-Cola and Revlon.

Display companies who snared more than one Gold OMA award included Beisler Associates, New York City, Chesapeake Display & Packaging, Winston-Salem, NC, DCI Marketing, Milwaukee, WI, Dauman Displays, Inc., New York City, Everbrite, Inc., Greenfield, WI, Henschel-Steinau, Inc., Englewood, NJ, PPI Group, Phoenix Display & Packaging, West Deptford, NJ, and Thomson-Leeds Company, Inc., New York City.

The beer category once again had a very strong showing in the compeition, with both Anheuser-Busch and Miller Brewing winning more than twenty awards.


NHL Launches All-Star Balloting In Stores

NHL Enterprises, Inc., New York City, has announced that All-Star Balloting for the 1995-96 season will take place through retail outlets across North America for the first time this year. Nearly eight million votes are expected to be cast.

The title sponsor for the program is Russell Athletic and The New Dodge is the presenting sponsor. Throughout the balloting period, players will make special appearances at retail stores to promote balloting and the Russell Athletic "Center Ice" apparel line.

"We are delighted that the program will include a major in-store retail promotion aimed at building sales and increasing the number of All-Star ballots being cast," said Wesley Haynes, VP Sales & Marketing for Russell Athletic.

Fans will also be able to vote on the NHL's "Open Net" internet site, (www.nhl.com).


Neutrogena Appts. M. McNamara To Sr. V.P. Mktg

Neutrogena Corp, Los Angeles, CA, a Johnson & Johnson Company, has appointed E. Michael McNamara to the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing.

Mr. McNamara will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies.


McDonalds & Amoco Opening Co-Branded Retail Locations

McDonald's Corp. and Amoco Corp. have announced plans to open co-branded retail locations in selected markets.

The locations will consist of McDonald's restaurants and Amoco service stations and convenience stores.

"Co-branded development will be a driver of growth for us because it meets a consumer need for convenience with brands they know and trust," said Michael Quinlan, Chairman and CEO of McDonalds.


Nickelodeon Appts. Two Senior Marketing Executives

Nickelodeon, announced that Tom Harbek has been appointed Senior Vice President, Marketing and Associate Worldwide Creative Director, Nickeldeon/Nick at Nite, and that Sergei Kuharsky has joined the firm as Vice President, Marketing for U.S. Television.

Mr. Harbeck will be responsible for all aspects of Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite marketing including affiliate marketing. Nickelodeon's off-air creative/design group, ACME, will report to him.

Mr. Kuharsky, who will report to Tom Harbeck, will focus on the brand management of Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.
