MCI Launches Retail Technology Centers Nationwide

MCI has formed an agreement with SAM’S Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, that provides the communications company with a nationwide retail presence. MCI will market its advanced services in more than 300 MCI-owned Communications Centers in SAM’S Clubs, creating a one-stop shopping mecca for its products and services including wireless phones, paging, Internet access, home security, long-distance and, in the future, local service.

The venture strengthens the existing partnership between MCI and SAM’S Club in which Club members receive unique MCI offers.

According to Terry Macko, V.P. of Partner Marketing at MCI, “MCI will instantly have a nationwide retail sales force and distribution channel in place, making communications technology accessible and affordable to more than 20 million members of SAM’S Club.


'NBA At 50' Display Promotes Video Launch

CBS/Fox and NBA Entertainment are supporting the release of the“NBA at 50” Golden Anniversary Collector’s Edition Video with extensive media and point-of-purchase advertising.

"NBA Video: I Love This Stuff" 12 and 24 piece pre-pack displays as well as posters and shelf talkers alert consumers to the fact that "Nothing Gets You Closer To The Game!"

Additional support includes a joint tie-in promotion with American Express, and an NBA web site promotion.


Golden Mills Introduces Golden Graham Treats

Golden Grahams Treats have been introduced by General Mills as an extension of the company’s Golden Grahams cereal brand. This is the first use of the Golden Grahams name outside the cereal aisle.

Made of Golden Grahams cereal and marshmallow, the individually wrapped cereal-based snack bars are available in two flavors, Honey Graham and Chocolate Chunk.

"The great taste of graham crackers combined with marshmallow makes a delicious snack whether you’re a kid or an adult," said Bart Reed, Marketing Manager. "It’s delicious in lunch boxes, after school, as a mid-afternoon snack at work or in the evening."

Golden Graham Treats are available through grocery, drug, discount and club stores in packages of eight individually wrapped bars. Individual bars will also be sold at convenience stores.


Toshiba Promotes S. Taylor To Mkt. Mgr., Telecom & Portable Electronics

Toshiba America Consumer Products recently promoted Sharon Taylor to the newly created position of Product Marketing Manager, Telecom and Portable Electronics. Ms. Taylor, who has been with the company for two years, was formerly Product Marketing Manager, Cordless Phones.

In her new position, Ms. Taylor is responsible for overseeing all marketing activities of Toshiba’s expanding cordless telephone line, as well as the company’s line of Looney Tunes Tronics and batteries.

Before joining the company, Ms. Taylor worked at CIDCO, a manufacturer of Caller ID equipment, where she was Director of New Product Development. Before that, she was employed by AT&T as Production Operations Manager, Corded Phone Division.


FFR Promotes P. Conway To Marketing Manager

Paul Conway has been promoted to Marketing Manager at Fasteners For Retail, Inc.

Mr. Conway joined the Cleveland, OH-based designer and producer of p.o.p. displays and merchandising accessories in 1990 as a customer service representative.
