New Nike Techlab Div. Debuts Sport Audio Player

Nike has created a new sports gear division called nike techlab. Clare Hamill, V.P., Nike Equipment, said “Techlab will pioneer products that fuse sports and technology for today’s digital athlete.”

The first of five new products is the Personal Sport Audio (PSA) Play 120, which combines the best of digital audio technology with extended memory features.


SGMA Reports On Most Popular Sports

The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) recently sponsored a study on sports participation in the U.S., conducted by American Sports Data, Inc.

The top fifteen most popular sports by number of participants (in millions) are: 1.Recreational Swimming (95.1); 2.Recreational Walking (84.1); 3.Recreational Bicycling (56.2); 4.Bowling (52.6); 5.Freshwater Fishing (44.5); 6.Free Weights (42.8); 7.Tent Camping (40.8); 8.Basketball (39.4); 9.Day Hiking (39.2); 10.Treadmill Exercise (37.5); 11.Billiards (36.4); 12.Fitness Walking (36.0); 13.Stretching (35.3); 14.Running/Jogging (34.0); and 15.Stationary Cycling (31.0).


Nabisco & MLB Run Oreo Stacking Promo

As the Official Cookie of Major League Baseball, Nabisco’s Oreo Cookie is teaming with the MLB to conduct Oreo Stacking Contests in more than 18,000 grocery and mass merchandise outlets.

The National Finals of the Oreo Stacking contest will be held at Major League Baseball’s 2000 World Series. Finalists may also have a chance to meet Ken Griffey, Jr. or Derek Jeter at the World Series. The Grand Prize winner will be the one who can vertically stack the most Oreo cookies in 30 seconds without using any props or glue. The Grand Prize is a $20,000 U.S. Savings Bond, two season tickets for their local Major League Baseball team and a year’s supply of Oreos.

“This year we decided to add a twist to the campaign by teaming up with Major League Baseball,” said Archie Mack, Oreo Business Director. “Oreo cookies and baseball are a part of every kid’s childhood and everyone can enjoy watching the game and eating an Oreo.”


Remington Floor Spinner Display

This 3-sided floor spinner display, designed and manufactured by Nashville Display, is constructed from metal and is used to merchandise shotgun barrels and chokes. The display has a durable powder finish and features strong brand identity. The Remington logo is screened on the end panels and top three sections of the display.


Specialized Accessory Display

This Specialized Accessory display is a two sided free standing mini gondola used to merchandise bike accessories: tubes, tires, pumps, helmets, clothes and foot gear. The main unit merchandises product using 8" wire hooks and two metal shelves with the specialized logo stamped on the face. The unit also allows the merchandising of clothing on hangers from the waterfall or straight arms that can be positioned in three different locations on the uprights. The unit has black metal slot wall on the two faces. The base, header and uprights are brushed cold rolled steel.


Inflatables On The Move

A new type of inflatable, called “Inflatables On The Move” features a remote controlled base unit. This adds a dimension of movement to inflatable promotions. The base operates on four “D” batteries, the control on one “9V” battery. These moving inflatables can be operated remotely from over 50 ft. distances.


Reebok - 13 Tower Display

This Reebok - 13 Tower Display was developed to support the introduction of the latest Allen Iverson signature shoe. The objective was to develop a unique tower presentation to launch the latest 13 basketball shoe to feature the footwear and Reebok endorsing athlete, Allen Iverson. A cost effective, translucent graphic process was utilized to create visual interest. The tower was placed in authorized dealer stores in major metro markets.


Inflatable Nascar Display

This Nascar Display was produced completely by Alvimar. Alvimar produced the Nascar inflatable replicas, which has become a popular item with Nascar fans. They also designed and produced the corrugated display, which was distributed to mass retailers such as J C Penny, K-Mart and also to specialty Nascar boutiques.


Blacktop Display

These displays took part in the introduction of the Blacktop program at Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker. The P.O.P. program was part of a comprehensive marketing effort by Reebok, Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker that included advertising, in-store promotions and athlete appearances. The program consisted of four elements: the shoe tower, the window display, the lease line kit, and the apparel header sign. The program captured the spirit and imagery of the outdoor, urban basketball game and featured the footwear, apparel and Reebok endorsing athlete, Steve Francis. Art Merchandising worked closely with Reebok, Foot Locker and Kids Foot Locker on the design, production and fulfillment of each element of the in-store program.


Rawlings Spinner Displays

This display offers replica player baseball gloves and was designed to capitalize on Rawlings pro baseball player endorsements. The display is a 3 sided spinner with each side representing one pro ball player, with a litho printed action photo at the top. A graphic kit was provided with each display to allow retailers to customize their product offering on the display based on player popularity.


Nike “Kit O Parts”

DISPLAY PRODUCER: RTC Industries Inc.
2800 Golf Road, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008

The Nike “Kit O Parts” program offered different retailers market distinction by adapting to their different logistical needs. The program also provided consumers with improved shopability. The materials used include extruded aluminum, cold rolled powder coated steel, distortion printed vacuum formed plastic, die cast aluminum and low voltage halogen lighting.
