DK’s Display Promotes NFL Books And Contest
DK Publishing, New York City, is using this 30-copy corrugated floor display, designed to resemble a football stadium, with a blimp flying overhead, to promote its newly published NFL Books.
The display also announces a special offer for an official NFL football and a consumer contest for a chance to win tickets to this year’s NFL Pro-Bowl in Hawaii.
Retailers can also order a 24-copy convertible floor display and a convertible 12-copy display. The displays can convert from a floor to a counter unit to accommodate different space requirements.
NBA City Captures NBA’s Excitement
The National Basketball Association and Hard Rock Cafe International have opened NBA City, the first-ever NBA restaurant located at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. NBA City’s design combines the architectural style and tradition of great arenas with state-of-the-art programming and interactive games.
NBA City features four distinct areas: CityWalk Cage, NBA City Club, NBA City Playground and the NBA City Shop. CityWalk Cage is a two-level, 275-seat dining room featuring NBA and WNBA photography. Two 9 x12 foot video screens display exclusive NBA City programming. The NBA City Club offers full menu service in an upscale atmosphere. The 2,100 sq. ft. Host Marriott & Fox Sports Team For Grill Concept
Host Marriott Services Corp. and FOX Sports have opened the first FOX Sports Sky Box locations at Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Concord Mills mall in Concord, NC. This unique new bar and grill concept is designed to cater to the appetite of the air-traveling and mall-going sports fan.
Each location resembles the FOX Sports studio and features state-of-the-art televisions showing any of the 22 FOX Sports Net regional cable channels, computer terminals providing access to the latest sports information on the internet; a running ticker with up-to-the-second news scores; and multiple stations for playing FOX Sports Interactive video games. FOX Sports-related memorabilia are on display and the latest styles in casual sportswear bearing FOX Sports and Fox Sports Sky Box insignias are available for purchase.
50+ Are New Force In Sporting Goods
The 50+ generation is exercising more than any other age group, according to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA). The 50+ are joining health clubs, running, biking, swimming, etc.
Some 28% of those age 65-67; and 20% of those age 50-64; exercise versus only 20% of U.S. population age 6+. According to health club industry surveys, the rate of those age 50+ who are joining health clubs has increased 21% over the past three years. 50+ attend health clubs: 55+, 98.6 days per year; 45-55, 88 days per year; and 35-45, 85 days per year. The top, five activities for people age 55+ are: Aquatic Exercise, Fitness Walking, Golf, Stationary Cycling and Cross-Country Skiing. There are 6.5 million golfers 50+. They make up 25% of all golfers and play nearly three times the average of their younger counterparts. Sales of exercise equipment to people between the ages of 45 and 64 rose 53% in 1998. Weight-training is the fastest growing fitness activity, driven by women ages 55+, driving usage up 54% since 1990.

EA Sports, Redwood City, CA, and General Mills’ Wheaties recently teamed up to promote EA SPORTS’ Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf for the PC.
EA Ssports distributed shrink-wrapped demo-disks of Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Golf, affixed on two million boxes of Wheaties. Each Wheaties box also contained a $10 coupon for Tiger Woods PGA TOUR Golf.
Mission Hockey BiltRite Glove Display
This display was designed to present Mission Hockey BiltRite Gloves in a new and innovative manner on a slatwall display as a merchandiser and stocking vehicle. This laser cut metal display and logo have a black powder finish and the 2-dimensional logo sign has a red and white powder finish. The unit is 11" wide x 15" high x 16" deep. The display obtained new distribution and additional space in the best specialty hockey stores and increased sales significantly.
